🌊 Dramatic Sea Rescue at Pobbles Bay 🌅

Imagine being caught by the currents as darkness falls, drifting further out into the sea. That’s exactly what happened to a young surfer at Pobbles Bay on the Gower Peninsula recently. With a north-westerly wind pushing him further into the Bristol Channel and temperatures dropping, the situation was dire. But the incredible RNLI volunteers sprang into action! 🚤

Around 6pm, the alert was raised, and lifeboats from Horton, Port Eynon, and The Mumbles raced against time to reach the troubled surfer. Thanks to a swift 999 call, they pinpointed his location—waving frantically on his board south of Foxhole Bay.

The first lifeboat on the scene, Horton and Port Eynon, executed a flawless rescue, with the surfer safely plucked from the chilly waters. Stuart Payne, a volunteer hero from the lifeboat crew, said it was a “straightforward recovery and a real team effort.”
Once onboard The Mumbles lifeboat, the team provided essential medical care and decided the best course of action was to bring him ashore at Oxwich Bay, reuniting him safely with his relieved family.
Gavin Dodd, another RNLI volunteer, shared a valuable tip: “Offshore winds can catch you out! Always check the conditions and ensure you’ve got a way to call for help.”
The RNLI is urging everyone to stay safe as they enjoy the water. Remember, if you see someone in trouble, dial 999 or 112 for the Coastguard.
Let’s celebrate these everyday heroes! 💙 #RNLIHeroes #StaySafe #GowerRescue
