🎶 Owain Wyn Evans, the charismatic BBC Radio 2 host and talented drummer, has shared an important message about hearing health. Growing up in Ammanford, Owain fell in love with drumming at the age of 10. But like many of us, he never considered how loud environments could harm his hearing. Fast forward a bit, and he’s noticed changes, making socialising a tad tricky.

“I’ve had to adapt,” he said, sharing how he now relies on lip-reading and positioning himself wisely in noisy places to stay connected in conversations. Owain’s experience isn’t unique; nearly half of Welsh adults have experienced similar hearing changes. But only some take action.

Owain’s advice to his younger self and everyone else? Protect those ears! Get regular hearing checks and safeguard against loud sounds—especially if, like him, you’re around music all the time.

He recently took his hearing concerns to the specialists and was relieved to know he doesn’t need hearing devices just yet. “I feel reassured because I know where I stand. Protecting my hearing while drumming is a priority,” he shared.
Owain loves the sounds of Wales; the crashing waves and beautiful landscapes make it home. Even after experiencing the bustling life of London, nothing beats the Welsh valleys. So let’s all take a page out of his book—cherish the sounds around us and take good care of our hearing. 💙🦻
