🚨 Shocking People Smuggling Operation Busted! 🚨
A sophisticated migrant smuggling network, using Facebook to lure vulnerable individuals with dangerous small boat journeys to the UK, has been dismantled. At the heart of this operation were Hop Nguyen, 36, and Hoang Nguyen, 25, who targeted the Vietnamese community by advertising crossings for under £3,000 per person.
Their social media posts promised “fast, convenient” travel to the UK, enticing at least 250 people between January 2023 and April 2024. Their operations didn’t stop once the migrants reached UK shores; they continued to help them evade authorities, disappearing into local communities.
With the help of a five-month investigation led by the National Crime Agency, the duo was arrested. The authorities uncovered mobile phones, sim cards, and ledgers listing 250 names, pointing to a staggering £750,000 potential profit. One individual connected to this network, Ramal Briem, received a 10-year prison sentence just last month, showing the widespread impact of this criminal group.
Both Hop and Hoang were sentenced to lengthy prison terms, with subsequent deportation orders in place. This case underscores the dangerous paths migrants are tempted into and highlights the relentless work of agencies like the NCA to dismantle such criminal networks. 💪
