A dramatic day at Coleraine Grammar School as a ‘chemical incident’ sends three staff members to hospital during the Easter holidays. Hazardous gases were accidentally released in a confined area of the school, but thankfully no students were on site. The quick response from emergency services brought the situation under control.

Headmaster Dr David Carruthers assured everyone that the school is actively working with these services to ensure a thorough clean-up. A significant number of emergency teams, including six fire appliances and five ambulances, rushed to the scene on Castlerock Road. The school is committed to safety and is taking all necessary measures to address this incident swiftly.

Our thoughts are with the staff members involved, who were assessed and taken to Causeway Hospital for further treatment. Kudos to the first responders whose swift action helped manage the situation. Stay tuned for updates as the school collaborates with emergency teams to resolve this safely.

Wishing a speedy recovery to all affected and a safe return for staff and students post-holidays!
