The court heard how Melbourne, who had no prior convictions, acted out in jealousy, with incidents escalating over time. The victim bravely spoke out about the lasting physical and psychological agony she endures, including nightmares and pain from the metal plates in her jaw.
In sentencing, the judge recognised the devastating impact on her life, implementing a substantial prison term along with a 10-year restraining order to protect the victim.
