Exciting changes are coming to the meals on wheels service in Rhondda Cynon Taf, aiming to save a whopping £50,000! 🚚💷

After reviewing the service, the council has decided to cut down the number of drivers and vehicles from 13 to 11. It turns out there’s some spare capacity in the system, meaning that they can still efficiently deliver meals across all routes. The savings will come from reducing driver posts and cutting costs on hire and fuel for the vehicles.

The review highlighted that some delivery rounds were being completed well before the end of the day, and there was some overlap in certain areas. So, by redistributing deliveries across the remaining routes, the service remains smooth and efficient. And don’t worry, the daily welfare checks provided by the friendly delivery drivers are still a top priority and won’t be affected.
A couple of drivers have even shown interest in taking early retirement with redundancy, which should help ease the transition to the new system. The changes are expected to kick in by June 2026, ensuring the service remains financially sustainable while continuing to support the vulnerable residents of Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Change is in the air, but the commitment to providing delicious meals and welfare checks is here to stay! 🌟
