A tragic incident occurred on a Cathay Pacific flight from Manchester to Hong Kong, resulting in the death of a 51-year-old passenger hours before landing. Identified in local reports as Mr Chen, he became unwell mid-flight. The plane had departed Manchester Airport on Thursday morning and was scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong just before 7 am local time the next day.

Hong Kong police were alerted by air traffic controllers after Mr Chen collapsed on board. Despite immediate first aid efforts from the crew and a doctor on board, he sadly could not be revived. An ambulance was called to the scene upon landing to meet the plane.

Reports suggest Mr Chen, an insurance broker, had been commuting regularly between the UK and Hong Kong for cancer treatments and work. His wife, who was travelling with him, noticed his condition worsened during the journey, and tragically, he became unresponsive a couple of hours before landing.

The cause of death is yet to be determined pending a post-mortem examination. This heartbreaking event reminds us of the unpredictability of life and the importance of cherishing our loved ones. Our thoughts are with Mr Chen’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
