π₯ Update: Massive Blaze at Bannau Brycheiniog π₯

Yesterday afternoon, a gigantic wildfire erupted in Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and it’s still raging after 24 hours! Covering a staggering 20 square kilometres of forestry, peat, and grassland, this fire has made for quite the challenge for our heroic fire crews.

π« Road Alert: The A470 was shut in both directions around the A4059 to Llwyn Onn Guest House, Merthyr Tydfil due to thick smoke. Good news though β as of now, no major travel issues are reported.
π¨ The Fight Continues: South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are on it, deploying numerous appliances, all-terrain vehicles, and a fire service drone. An ongoing wildfire officer is on-site monitoring the situation. Dry weather and strong winds are certainly not helping the situation, and itβs unclear what sparked the blaze.
π€ Team Effort: With SWFRS leading the charge, support from the National Trust, Natural Resources Wales, and South Wales Police is crucial.
π¨βπ Stay Safe Guidelines:
– Shut windows and doors if smoke is nearby
– Avoid the area; give crews space to work
– Steer clear of walking and outdoor activities, especially around Pen y Fan
π A big thank you to the public for your cooperation while the brave firefighters work in tough conditions to bring this under control. Keep updated via official channels for the latest developments!
Let’s all hope for swift control over this devastating wildfire. Stay safe, everyone!
