The cruise ship’s outbreak has been traced back to an unexpected source—a birdwatcher’s visit to a notorious landfill site. Meanwhile, all remaining British passengers and crew on board are symptom-free but under close watch as they head back to the UK.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) assures us that the risk to the public is “very low.” However, the government is taking no chances. Staff will assist the returnees on a chartered flight from Tenerife this Sunday, equipped with full protective gear. Once they touch down in the UK, they’ll be whisked away to Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral, for a 72-hour assessment to decide their isolation plans.

Everyone from the MV Hondius will be asked to self-isolate for up to 45 days, ensuring they and the public stay safe. Professor Robin May of UKHSA said collaboration with international partners is ongoing to ensure the safe return and wellbeing of all involved. He praised the robust infection control measures in place.

As these individuals prepare for their journey home, let’s respect their privacy during this stressful period. We’ll keep you updated with any new developments.
