Tourists Prefer Beachfront Hotel Rooms Over City Center Flats in Swansea Due to Uncomfortable Sleeping Conditions

A Swansea couple’s dream city flat has turned into a nightmare because of relentless noise. Kirsty Rowlands, 37, and Liam Petheridge, 31, are so desperate for some peace that they’ve taken to booking hotel rooms or even heading to the beach at night for a decent sleep—yes, even in the snow!

They moved into their flat on St Helen’s Road two years ago but say sleepless nights have become a norm due to constant disturbances. The couple, who’ve sold their TV because they can’t even enjoy it, have pleaded with their landlord, Beacon Cymru, to address the issue. But conversations with the housing association, local MPs, and even the Housing Ombudsman have yet to bring relief.

Kirsty, facing health challenges and under psychiatric care, is particularly affected, stating, “It just gets unbearable—I can’t live like this anymore.” Letters from her psychiatrist and GP highlight the urgency: she needs rest. Despite taking sleeping tablets, Kirsty is still left tossing and turning.

The couple often crashes at The Dragon Hotel, Delta Hotel, or Dolphin SA1 Hotel, and sometimes rely on family in Felindre for a bed for the night. Liam, who takes care of Kirsty, acknowledges, “Everything gets on top of you; borrowing money just to sleep shouldn’t be the norm.”

The couple believes inadequate soundproofing is the main culprit and has shared sound recordings with their landlord. Kirsty and Liam are hoping for swift action so they can finally enjoy a peaceful night at home.

While Beacon Cymru remains tight-lipped about individual complaints, they assure an active investigation is underway. Meanwhile, Kirsty and Liam cling to hope for a quieter future. 💤🏨 #Swansea #SleepDeprivation #CityLife
