Heartbreaking news for the rugby community as we say goodbye to Scottish rugby legend, Scott Hastings, who passed away on what would have been his late wife Jenny’s birthday. Scott’s battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma ended this past Sunday, just two years after losing Jenny in tragic circumstances.

Jenny had struggled with depression for 20 years before her life ended during a swim at Wardie Bay, Edinburgh. Despite his own health struggles, Scott regularly visited the bay, speaking openly about his loss and the profound connection he felt to the spot. “It’s very reflective and resonant,” he shared in an interview last year.
Scott’s former teammate and friend, Brian Moore, paid an emotional tribute during his broadcast, and World Rugby praised Hastings as a cornerstone of their historic 1990 Grand Slam triumph. Hastings was not just a force on the field but also a cherished voice in rugby broadcasting and advocacy.

Scott’s children, Corey and Kerry-Anne, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to those who cared for him during his final days. In their statement, they poignantly noted the significance of his passing on Jenny’s birthday, emphasising the idea that he is now safe with his beloved wife.

As we remember Scott, the rugby world reflects on his legacy not just as a player, but as a beacon of strength, love, and commitment. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the Scottish rugby community.
Rest in peace, Scott Hastings. 💔🏉
