Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan is not holding back! He’s called out the 100-minute frame between Mark Allen and Wu Yize at the World Snooker Championship, branding it “awful”. The pair locked horns over a stubborn cluster of balls, leaving fans twiddling their thumbs for a whopping 40 minutes sans any pots! 🤯
Even iconic figures like Steve Davis couldn’t believe their eyes, dubbing the scene “embarrassing”. The ref refused to break the stalemate until finally stepping in to suggest a re-rack after countless uneventful minutes. Allen fouled on the black in a bid to maintain his lead but eventually lost the frame. Lesson learnt?
Ronnie, fresh from his triumph at the Global Snooker 900 championship in Reading, was quick to share how he would’ve smashed those balls open in no time. He thrives in the fast-paced Snooker 900, where the frames cap at 15 minutes and there’s a nifty 20-second shot clock to keep things snappy. 🎱
Talking about it, Ronnie said, “That 100-minute frame? Horrendous! I’d have busted those balls open. The Snooker 900 keeps you on your toes, just how I like it.” He’s a fan of the quick-thinking format and even reminisced about the shot clock days in the Premier League.
After pocketing the £100,000 prize in Reading and being recently honoured as World Seniors Champion, Ronnie’s singing praises for both his opponent Luca Brecel and this nimble new format. “If players had their say, most would choose this setup. It’s less dragging, more playing! We’re not stuck playing into the early hours wondering about our next meal,” he chuckles.
Ronnie’s hopeful that the 900 format, with its exhilarating pace and player-friendly nature, might just revolutionise snooker. “It hits the sweet spot. With support, this could be snooker’s new future. Watch this space!” 🎉
