Top Gear star, Jeremy Clarkson, has given a Welsh gem his highest praise! During a recent visit, Clarkson declared the Harbourmaster Hotel in Aberaeron superior to the luxurious Miami Four Seasons—where a room costs £632 a night! Incredible, right?
Clarkson, while filming in the Aberystwyth area, booked into the charming Aeron Queen suite at the Harbourmaster. Boasting stunning panoramic views over the harbour, and decorated in a vibrant purple and turquoise scheme, it’s easy to see why it captivated him. But it wasn’t just the room that stole the show.
Dining at the hotel’s restaurant, Clarkson enjoyed crispy cockles with chilli vinegar, followed by a delectable sea trout special, leaving him and his team with a bill around £300. Impressed beyond belief, he told his waiter the venue was better than Miami’s best and reiterated it upon checking out.
In his Sunday Times column, Clarkson waxed lyrical about a post-dinner stroll along the new sea wall and its breathtaking sunset views—saying it felt more Caribbean than Welsh! This fabulous endorsement has sent ripples of pride throughout Aberaeron, especially after a tough period of infrastructure work that left the town in disarray.
Dai Morgan, Harbourmaster’s general manager, expressed his delight: “Clarkson’s praises aren’t just for us but for the whole of Aberaeron. Our town’s bounced back beautifully from the disruption, and this is a celebration for everyone here.”
