MP Henry Tufnell has raised the alarm, demanding action from Welsh Water to address the water safety in Tenby. In a heartfelt social media post, the boy’s parent warned: “It’s terrible that we can’t swim in our seas and rivers safely anymore. Please be aware.”

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) confirmed there was no reported pollution in Tenby on May 6, though a separate incident was noted 12 miles away. Signs have been placed advising against swimming at this location as tests continue.

Tufnell criticised Welsh Water’s environmental performance, labelling it a “serious risk” to both locals and tourists and stressed the economic impact on the region dependent on its beaches. He is seeking a plan of action to safeguard the health of everyone enjoying these coastal areas.

North Beach had been a beacon of summer fun for over 25 years before first losing its Blue Flag in 2022. Although Tenby’s iconic beaches have varying statuses, the push to reclaim this mark of excellence is strong.

Owen Derbyshire of Keep Wales Tidy has pledged support to help restore the beach’s water quality, aiming for future Blue Flag success.
