Carmarthenshire’s roads are taking a beating! 🚧 Last year, the council tackled over 3,623 potholes, compared to just 2,360 the year before. That’s more than 10 potholes filled every day! The surge in repairs aligns with a rise in public reports and regular inspections by the highways team.

But there’s more to the story. With 156 insurance claims from pothole damage in the last two years, the council paid out on five, costing £8,181. This highlights the ongoing battle with road maintenance amidst budget constraints.

Cllr Edward Thomas emphasised the importance of both reactive and long-term maintenance strategies to tackle this issue within the available budget. And it’s not just Carmarthenshire feeling the pressure; neighbouring Swansea repaired 6,322 potholes in just one year and faced 5,455 public reports.
Let’s not forget – potholes worsen in winter due to freezing and expanding water, leading to even more cracks. Despite these challenges, the council is committed to improving road conditions for all. Stay safe on the roads, and keep reporting those pesky potholes! 🛣️💥 #Carmarthenshire #RoadRepairs #Potholes
