A vibrant young woman, Isabelle Sapherson-Moralee, passed away at just 22 after her body succumbed to a five-year battle with ketamine addiction. Her devastated mother, Ann Moralee, shared the emotional journey of trying to save her daughter from the grip of this dangerous drug.
Izzy, described as beautiful and intelligent, suffered chronic pain and severe bladder damage due to her addiction. Despite her mother’s relentless efforts to get her the help she desperately needed, Izzy’s reliance on the drug escalated, especially during the isolating Covid lockdowns when she lived with her boyfriend.
Ann recounted how Izzy discharged herself from the hospital days before her passing, choosing to spend her final hours at home rather than endure another hospital visit. Ann, a former nurse and flight attendant, did everything in her power to save her daughter, but ultimately, she couldn’t.
The heartbreak is compounded by the fact that health services’ perceived indifference may have added to Izzy’s loss of faith in medical professionals, a sentiment echoed by Ann in the inquest. In her mother’s words, the system missed numerous opportunities to intervene and help her daughter.
