MPs are banging their desks, questioning the delays and whether this mega money machine is truly fit for action. The plan was for Ajax to roll out in 2017, but hiccups have kept it in the garage, with safety concerns at the forefront. Though given the green light last November, soldiers faced noise and vibration issues faster than you can say “maintenance check”!

A bit dramatic, right? The UK Government’s Public Accounts Committee isn’t holding back, grilling both the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and General Dynamics over delays and potential extra costs if they need to give Ajax a makeover to meet modern battlefield needs.

Oh, and the whoops from Keir Starmer’s government – their defence investment plan was meant to drop last year. Now, they’re aiming for July. It’s a big deal, as it’s supposed to boost defence spending and improve everything from infrastructure to personnel.

Commons spending watchdog isn’t too keen on the excuses, calling out the absence as damaging to credibility, safety, and the armed forces’ trust. As for the MoD, they’re promising a “generational increase” in defence cash with an extra ÂŁ270bn. Let’s see how that pans out!
