Once a cherished getaway spot, Prestatyn’s iconic Pontins holiday park has fallen into a heartbreaking state of neglect. From its opening in 1971, it was a sanctuary for families seeking seaside fun, complete with a private beach, pools, and play areas. Sadly, the site now sits abandoned, a fading echo of its former glory, after closing its doors in November 2023.

For over fifty years, holidaymakers flocked to this vibrant resort. Now, its boarded-up chalets and overgrown grounds paint a stark picture of decay. Local residents remember it fondly, with many hoping for a revival. Pete Davis, once linked to Pontins through his cleaning business, dreams of it becoming a holiday camp again. “It’s a shame to see it wasted. The council should step in and revive it,” he shared.

Not everyone mourns the closure, however. Some visitors recall its latter days as less than ideal, describing grim conditions and calling its end overdue. Yet, for locals like Prestatyn’s Mayor, Cllr Adrian West, the vision is clear: transform the site into something beneficial for the community, be it a restored tourist attraction or modern housing, but definitely not industrial.

The debate stirs heated emotions, with residents eager for a solution that respects Prestatyn’s need for infrastructure and community spaces. The future of this once-bustling leisure retreat hangs in the balance, as everyone awaits the next chapter in its long, storied history. What do you think should happen to the old Pontins site?
