Swansea was buzzing with excitement as two luxury cruise ships, Windstar’s Star Legend and Ponant’s Le Champlain, docked bringing in 400 eager tourists. The arrivals were met with an authentic Welsh welcome, featuring heartwarming performances from the Phoenix Choir of Wales and traditional band, Atsain.

Kicking off on June 14, these predominantly American guests were given the perfect Welsh introduction and local tourism team were on hand to offer tips on exploring the best the area has to offer – from Swansea Bay’s stunning coastline and rich maritime history, to the literary legacy of Dylan Thomas. And the journey didn’t stop there! Many took the opportunity to visit the picturesque Gower National Landscape, making their experience truly unforgettable.

Local businesses are thrilled, seeing such visits as a golden opportunity to showcase the best of Swansea to a global audience. With the city previously hosting the MV Hamburg, it’s clear that Swansea Bay is on the map as a must-visit cruise destination.

Andrew Williams from Swansea Council expressed joy at the ships’ arrival, noting the boost it gives to local business and the hope it brings for future visits. In agreement, Ashley Curnow from Associated British Ports highlighted Swansea’s role as the gateway to Gower, emphasising the growing interest in South Wales as a key cruise stop.
Thrilled to support this venture, Dr Nicole Deufel from the National Waterfront Museum expressed eagerness in sharing stories of Wales’ maritime heritage with the new visitors. It’s a promising wave of tourism that Swansea Bay is geared up to ride for many seasons to come! 🌊🛳🌟
