🎾 Wimbledon Drama: Jelena Ostapenko in a Tesco Kit Faces Crowd Jeers! 🏆

Jelena Ostapenko, the fiery Latvian tennis ace, made waves at Wimbledon sporting an unexpected Tesco-branded kit. The 29-year-old clashed with the crowd after her thrilling first-round victory over Britain’s Harriet Dart.

The match was tense, with Ostapenko capturing the opening set, only for Dart to fight back and level by securing the second set 6-3. The third set saw fierce competition, tied at 4-4, until Ostapenko rallied to win the final games. Despite sealing her victory, Ostapenko wasn’t too thrilled with the crowd’s reaction.

“I’m not happy when fans cheer for double faults,” confessed Ostapenko. But she understands it’s all part of supporting local players and instead channelled her frustration as fuel for her on-court performance. “I use my anger in a good way, transforming it into my game,” she added.
BBC’s Martina Navratilova commented on the crowd dynamics, suggesting they were applauding the competitiveness Dart brought back to the match, not specifically jeering Ostapenko’s mistakes. Meanwhile, sports broadcaster Chris Bradnam noted the challenge of facing an audience rooting for the local star.
Ostapenko, a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2018, acknowledged the natural support for homegrown talent but light-heartedly suggested fans should cheer for her in future rounds. “Maybe I proved them wrong,” she laughed. “Next match, show me some support!”
