Exciting developments are underway in Beddau! The council has officially submitted plans to expand the Gypsy and Traveller site in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Based on the findings from the 2022 Gypsy and Traveller Needs Assessment, the area is in need of 27 new pitches by 2037.

This proposed extension is a significant step to accommodate that demand. The initial phase aims to add at least nine new pitches, with the potential for an additional five pitches in future developments. The planning application ensures that designs are mindful of existing site features, like ecological aspects, and include enhancements like green infrastructure and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).

The layout will follow guidance from the Welsh Government for designing such sites, prioritising safety and local planning policies. Plus, the plans include a children’s play area and a site management office, aiming for efficient use of space while maintaining the site’s natural charm.
The location for this expansion is adjacent to the existing Beddau site on Penycoedcae Road. This largely undeveloped land is rich with native trees and offers a historical backdrop, previously accommodating both Gypsy and non-Gypsy households since the early 1970s. While it has been unused since 2001, this project breathes new life into the site and bolsters community inclusivity.
Stay tuned for further updates as the planning process unfolds! πΏποΈ
