Historic Cardiff Tavern Set to Transform into New Residential Development

🏡 Big changes ahead for Llanishen! The historic Wolf’s Castle Inn, a former pub with roots dating back to the 19th century, is set to be demolished to make way for new housing. Cardiff Council has given the green light for the development, which promises 24 socially rented homes to help meet local housing needs.

– A three-storey block with 12 flats.
– A smaller block with two flats.
– Ten single dwellings.

The site, though filled with memories, has faced challenges. The pub’s character had already shifted due to alterations in the 1950s, and it officially closed its doors in August 2022. While some are excited about the new development, others have voiced concerns about the scale and impact on Wolf Castle Avenue’s narrow road.

Councillors see the benefits of moving forward. Cllr Garry Hunt praised the housing plans but acknowledged traffic concerns. Cllr Jon Shimmin added that the empty site could attract unwanted behaviour, a sentiment echoed by Cllr Helen Gunter. Meanwhile, Cllr Sean Driscoll expressed mixed feelings, acknowledging the necessity of the project while lamenting the pub’s closure.

🤔 Residents have mixed reactions too, with five objections linked to the planning application, especially regarding the height of the proposed buildings.
