In a heartbreaking discovery, Sara Baldwin was found dead in her bed after police were alerted due to concerns for her well-being. The 44-year-old from Tairfelin, Wildmill in Bridgend, had not been seen for several days, prompting a welfare check by officers last May. Upon entering her home, they found her deceased, with the property secure and no signs of foul play.

The inquest revealed that Sara struggled with anxiety, depression, and chronic alcohol dependence, frequently undergoing treatment. A post-mortem examination identified steatohepatitis, also known as fatty liver disease, linked to chronic alcohol misuse. The official cause of death was recorded as “sudden unexplained death in alcohol misuse.”

This tragic event underscores the importance of recognising and addressing mental health and addiction issues. While the findings bring some closure, Sara’s story highlights the silent battles many face and the urgent need for support systems for those struggling. Her passing serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of untreated mental health challenges and addiction.
