Stephen Harris faced every driver’s worst nightmare when his car burst into flames on a busy Cardiff road. Imagine cruising along Tyndall Street in your trusty Land Rover, just to hear a loud pop and suddenly find yourself enveloped in thick smoke! 😳
Stephen’s drive turned into a fight for survival. As he frantically tried to bring his car to a halt with no brakes and a jammed accelerator, smoke filled the cabin. Just when panic was peaking, the car exploded with a “boom,” flames licking at the windows. Sound terrifying? It was! Stephen, disoriented and choking on smoke, was preparing for the worst.
But in every disaster, heroes emerge. Martin Hancock, a fellow driver, saw the unfolding horror and sprang into action. He dashed from his van, opened the car door, and pulled Stephen to safety just before the front tyres exploded. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! 🙌
Once safe, Stephen was attended to by the manager of the Novotel, who offered first aid until emergency services arrived. Stephen spent hours in the hospital coughing up soot from his lungs, grateful for the quick actions of his rescuers.
Though shaken and recovering, Stephen is thankful his four children weren’t in the car with him. He shudders to think of the “what ifs” but focuses on gratitude instead. “I thought I was going to die,” he recalled, adding a heartfelt thanks to Martin and the Novotel manager for literally saving his life.
