A massive operation unfolded on the Pembrokeshire coast as salvage teams recovered the remains of a colossal ship after it ran aground last December. The vessel, known as The Resolute, was abandoned near Aber Hywel, Dinas, after being battered by rough seas and a force seven southerly wind. Thankfully, all four crew members were safely evacuated, though one was briefly swept into the sea before being rescued.
Worth over £250,000, the 24-meter ship’s fate was sealed as it lay stranded for six months. Despite numerous salvage attempts, teams couldn’t free her from the rugged rocks. The decision was made to break up the vessel to ensure its removal, marking a bittersweet farewell to the seas for the once-proud fishing vessel.
Drone operator Nick Bolton captured the drama, describing it as a “sad end for the GV RESOLUTE.” He praised the salvage team for striving to minimise environmental damage in challenging conditions.
The HM Coastguard monitored the situation closely, confirming that most of the vessel’s fuel had been safely offloaded with no significant pollution reported.
