An adventurous e-biker decided to take his dangerous escapades to the streets of Newport! Owen Pendree, who was already banned from driving, was spotted performing wheelies and speeding through the bustling city centre. The situation reached a dramatic climax when, realising the police were hot on his trail, he decided to ditch his Sur-Ron e-bike in the river. The National Police Air Service helicopter tracked him down, allowing police to swiftly intervene, deploying a stinger and putting an end to Pendree’s wild ride near Clarence Place.
The 32-year-old faced the music in Newport Magistrates’ Court, where he admitted to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and riding without insurance. His escapade has now landed him a 12-month prison sentence, and a new driving ban — this time for three and a half years. Pendree will also be required to pass an extended driving test when his ban is lifted.
PC Nathan Ford praised the teamwork that brought this reckless driver to justice, as the incident highlights how law enforcement is cracking down on dangerous driving. The video evidence was clear: pulling wheelies and behaving erratically in busy city areas won’t be tolerated.
