🍟 Parking in Cardiff just got a bit funnier! Last week, visitors at Cardiff Central railway station might’ve been left craving chips thanks to a translation blunder on the pay and display machine. Instead of the usual ‘tap or chip and pin’, the Welsh instructions suggested ‘tap or chips and pin’!
Social media erupted in giggles with users jokingly asking, “dim pysgod?” (no fish?) and others claiming they “can’t stop laughing.” Some even thought they’d stumbled upon a chip-dispensing ATM!
The mistake, although hilariously moot, wasn’t far off. In Welsh, ‘sglodion’ means ‘chips’, the plural form, whereas ‘sglodyn’ is ‘chip’. But no, the machine wasn’t actually dishing out a side of fries with your parking fee.
Network Rail and APCOA have now corrected the error, with a spokesperson having a laugh about it too, confirming no salt or vinegar were found on the machine.
