Unexpected Violence Erupts as Cardiff Pub Altercation Turns Gruesome with Eye Gouging and Assault on Woman

An evening at Cardiff’s Royal Oak pub turned shockingly violent, leaving one man with a horrifying eye injury. Covie Hallam-Rose, alongside Molly Geoghegan and Jack Trigg, found themselves amid chaos after a night out spiralled out of control on April 2, 2023. A heated argument led to Hallam-Rose viciously pressing his thumb into Steven Nicholas’s eye—resulting in a loss of sight and several surgeries to repair a detached retina. Judge Williams condemned this “needless and cynical violence,” describing it as an outrageous display with no justification.
