Heartbreak for Local Sauna Enthusiast 🌊

Kerry Evans, the inspiring woman behind the beloved Hwyl Outdoor Sauna at Saundersfoot Harbour, faces an unexpected setback. After two successful years of operating the mobile wood-fired sauna, Kerry has been asked to remove it. The issue? Concerns over its location impacting the picturesque seafront.

Kerry, a mum-of-two and former superyacht worker, launched this unique wellness venture, offering locals and visitors an enchanting escape by the sea. But, despite capturing the hearts of the community and even clinching the Wales Prestige Awards’ Sauna of the Year 2026/27 title, planners have deemed the current setup unsuitable.

Their reasoning? It’s all about “landscape impact” and “public access.” Plus, there’s an unfulfilled Flood Consequences Assessment requirement. Yet, Kerry argues the sauna’s history of being safely relocated during adverse weather speaks for itself.
With backing from councillors and hundreds of signatures on a petition, the local love for this ‘wellness landmark’ is undeniable. Kerry is hopeful about identifying an alternative spot, emphasising how integral the beach-side views are to this serene experience. She’s even contemplating an appeal, reflecting on how this oasis fosters connection and supports local causes.
Feeling the community’s support, Kerry is remaining optimistic: “We’re hoping they’ll suggest a genius idea to make it work,” she says. A Change.org petition has already started gaining momentum, rallying those who cherish this special slice of Saundersfoot.
