🚦 Exciting Change Ahead for Drivers Between Pontypool and Blaenavon! 🚗💨

Big news for anyone who regularly travels the A4043! A new £250,000 project is set to tackle the notorious traffic jams along the six-mile route between these two Welsh towns. Drivers often face up to an hour’s delay, but changes are coming!
🔧 What’s Happening? The council is installing smart traffic lights that prioritise buses, reducing congestion and speeding up travel times. Part of a larger £6.5 million investment from the UK Government, this initiative aims to enhance local transport efficiency and reliability.

🗣️ “It’s all about making bus travel faster and more predictable,” says Simon Hall, interim head of economy. “This project turns traffic lights green for buses, so everyone benefits from a smoother journey.”
👍 The move is welcomed by local leaders. Cllr Sue Morgan is enthusiastic about prioritising buses but raises a valid concern about potential driver frustration. “How do we address drivers who aren’t used to the new system?” she asks.

🔍 Future Plans? The council is pondering extending this system south of the borough and tackling other transport issues. With a range of projects totalling £3.5 million already in motion, additional plans are in the pipeline for further funding this year.
🎯 Other Exciting Developments: The council is also investing £50,000 in restoring the historic Pwll Du tunnel and £145,000 in developing cycling trails in Pontypool. These initiatives aim to boost tourism and support community-led activities, providing a win-win for locals and visitors alike.
