Heads up, parents! 🌟 The experts at Childline have a new number you need to know, and some golden advice on tackling body image worries with your kids. Last year, Childline helped over 3,300 young folks with these issues. They’ve heard from kids as young as 12 dealing with worries about their bodies, influenced by social media pressures and unrealistic beauty standards.

It’s a tough world out there for our children, especially when they’re bombarded with images and messages about the “ideal” body. The summer holidays can heighten these feelings as they spend more time online and less on self-love. 🏖️📱

Here’s the scoop: When chatting about food and exercise, focus on being strong and healthy rather than the number on the scale. 💪 Celebrate what your bodies can do instead of how they look. Remember, young ones emulate what they hear, so steer clear of negative comments about weight and appearance.
Some young ones have shared how they’ve felt trapped in cycles of binge eating or purging due to pressures or teasing. It’s crucial to listen without judgement and guide them towards support if needed. 🤗 Encourage them to seek help—talking to someone they trust can be a huge relief. Remind them that those glossy images online are often edited and not real-life!
If you notice changes in your child’s eating habits, mood, or social behaviour, it’s okay to reach out for help. The NSPCC Helpline is available for support, ensuring you’re never alone in navigating these waters. 🌊 Remember, it’s all about focusing on health and happiness rather than comparison. Everyone’s uniqueness is their superpower!
