Despite the severity of the attack, the court heard that Horgan, who resides in Garden Suburbs, Pontywaun, Caerphilly, was battling addiction issues at the time. His solicitor claimed that he is “well regarded” by those who know him and has taken steps to address his problems since the March 2025 incident.

Cardiff Magistrates’ Court handed Horgan a 12-month suspended prison sentence with a two-year suspension. He is required to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and undergo a 90-day alcohol abstinence monitoring programme. Additionally, he must pay his victim £2,000 in compensation and another £187 in a surcharge. To protect the victim, a ten-year restraining order has been put in place, prohibiting any form of contact.
