Heartbreak in Thornaby: A young life tragically cut short. Isabelle Welsh, just two years old, faced unimaginable horrors at the hands of her mum’s boyfriend, Harrison Simpson. Found guilty of sexually assaulting and murdering her, Simpson received a life sentence. Tragically, Isabelle endured weeks of abuse, including 21 broken bones, before her passing last September. Her mother, Alexandra Walker, was also sentenced to life for murder and child cruelty, although she was not found guilty of sexual assault.

Despite showing concerns about Simpson’s behaviour, Walker continued the relationship, even after seeking evidence from the sex offenders’ register. Young Isabelle was eventually hospitalised for a broken leg, raising suspicions among medical staff. However, Walker delayed seeking treatment, and when her daughter needed urgent help, she hesitated to call 999.

When paramedics arrived, they found Isabelle covered in bruises, marking the end of a series of assaults deemed “sadistic” by the presiding judge. Isabelle’s family has expressed their deep sorrow, remembering her as a child who was dearly loved. This tragic saga leaves a community in mourning, reflecting on the need for vigilance and support to prevent such unthinkable acts against innocent children. Our hearts go out to all those affected, with hopes for healing and prevention of future tragedies. 💔
