Criminal Conviction: Birmingham Pair Convicted of Killing Man under Their Supervision, Rubin Blount

Heartbreaking news from Tamworth: Kenneth Newton, 57, and Melanie James, 63, have been found guilty of the murder of 28-year-old Rubin Blount, a vulnerable man tragically placed in their care. Over time, Rubin, who was also Newton’s step-brother, was subjected to appalling abuse including repeated beatings, threats, and neglect, ultimately leading to his untimely death.

Emergency services rushed Rubin to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield in November 2022 after concerns for his welfare. Upon arrival, Rubin went into cardiac arrest but was resuscitated, only to remain critically ill due to severe injuries, including 50 fractured ribs, pneumonia, and various burns and lesions. Sadly, Rubin passed away three days later.

Both Newton and James denied harming Rubin, despite the squalid conditions found in his room. Evidence presented in Stafford Crown Court revealed their cruel actions and intent to cause serious harm. Rubin’s parents continue to grieve an unimaginable loss, as friends and the local community remember him with heavy hearts.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald praised the tireless work of officers to bring justice for Rubin, emphasising the cruelty of the couple’s actions.
