Louis Rees-Zammit’s rugby return was nothing short of dramatic! The Welsh speedster took to the field for Bristol Bears in the PREM Rugby Cup and got a memorable welcome back. During his debut, Rees-Zammit was reminded just how tough rugby can be, facing a powerful bump-off from Rekeiti Ma’asi-White that sent him flying backwards. Talk about a wake-up call!

This marked Rees-Zammit’s first rugby union appearance since he traded his boots for a shot at the NFL, where he tried his luck with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. However, his heart led him back to rugby, and he’s now set to make waves with the Bears. Initially anticipated to debut in the PREM Rugby opener, coach Pat Lam instead gave him a taste of action in the cup match.
Despite the wet conditions, Lam was pleased with Rees-Zammit’s performance, highlighting his potential threat on the field. “He got out there, gained some game time, and showed he’s a real danger,” said Lam on BBC Radio Bristol. “It’s a big first step for him, and we’re looking forward to more.”

Rees-Zammit, along with four other debutants, experienced the intense action that saw the Bears narrowly fall to Sale Sharks, 24-15. The next challenge on the horizon is against former club Gloucester. Lam confirmed that the Penarth flyer would likely play, emphasising the importance of gaining confidence and improving as he continues his rugby journey.
