Breaking News: Pembrokeshire’s Labour councillor, Jordan Ryan, has called it quits with the party! Citing Labour’s inability to challenge the rise of the far right, Ryan believes it’s time to build a new socialist force. He remarked, “Our country is at a crossroads, and so am I. We need change, real change.”

Disillusioned by Labour’s current direction—especially their stance on social security cuts for the disabled and their foreign policy choices—Ryan felt it was time to part ways. He criticised the party for focusing only on power and governance without a strategy for change. “Their appeasement and lack of action have shattered Labour’s stronghold,” he shared.

A county representative for Fishguard North East since 2022, Ryan’s passion for activism and equality was shaped in his youth, inspired by values of compassion, sharing, and solidarity. Now, he’s eager to join forces with progressive parties and groups, aiming to bring proportional representation and ensure everyone’s vote counts.
Ryan aims to form a new left-wing party with a mission to unify socialists across the UK, combat the rise of the far right, and address societal issues. He finished his statement with a powerful quote from Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “The Masque of Anarchy,” calling for unity and resilience: “Rise like lions after slumber… ye are many—they are few.”
As an unaffiliated councillor, Ryan vows to be a “critical friend” to the current administration. He concluded, “People deserve a genuine alternative to the incompetence of the Labour government and the risks of a potential Reform government in the future. Our new party must be that alternative.”
