A Pembrokeshire town councillor has caused quite a stir with complaints about their “poor behaviour”! An Ombudsman’s investigation into their conduct has been halted after the councillor resigned, but the details are raising eyebrows.
The report, which will be released at next month’s Pembrokeshire Council’s standards committee, reveals there were four separate complaints against the councillor. The allegations? They’ve supposedly failed to treat colleagues with respect, made vexatious complaints, bullied and harassed the clerk, and tarnished the council’s reputation.
The investigation gathered emails, recordings, and minutes from council meetings, alongside police information. The findings painted a worrying picture of long-term misconduct. However, before any tribunal could be set, the councillor resigned “on grounds of ill health.”
With the resignation, the Ombudsman decided it wasn’t in the public interest to continue the probe, adding that the councillor’s departure ends their influence and potential risks to others. But make no mistake, if any new concerns about this former member arise, the Ombudsman won’t hesitate to reconsider the case.
