Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens issued a bold warning at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, labelling the growing Reform Party as a “serious threat” to the livelihood of Welsh citizens. Stevens, joined by First Minister Eluned Morgan, voiced concerns over the Reform Party’s rising popularity and the potential loss of seats in both the UK and Welsh governments.

Highlighting the successes achieved under the current administration, such as improved employment rates and economic investments, Stevens emphasised that these advancements could be at risk. “Our tireless efforts to enhance living standards, create jobs, and strengthen public services are under threat,” she asserted.

With no Welsh policies or leader, and struggling to get even Caerphilly’s spelling right, Stevens claims Reform Party’s presence in Wales brings disrespect and division. “They don’t care about Wales,” she stated, calling out their condescending tone and questioning their commitment to Welsh communities.
Stevens also took aim at Plaid Cymru, criticising their independence plans that she claimed would cost Wales £21bn annually—translating to over £11,000 in tax rises for each working-age adult.
Meanwhile, a Reform UK Wales spokesperson hit back, accusing Welsh Labour of resorting to “desperate lies” and suggesting that only Reform offers the change that can uplift Welsh communities after 26 years under Labour.
