🚦 New Safety Measures in Place in Chepstow 🚦

Big changes are happening in Chepstow to boost road safety after a shocking incident left a woman with severe injuries. A new set of speed indicator signs has appeared around the town, especially near schools and where the unfortunate accident occurred.

Back in February, a 51-year-old woman was hit by a lorry while leaving Chepstow Leisure Centre. The accident led to multiple broken bones and major surgery. This tragic event sparked calls for improved safety measures on Welsh Street and nearby areas.

Local councillor Christopher Edwards has been vocal about road safety, raising concerns about the stretch from the Chepstow Racecourse roundabout, through the town centre, and alongside the schools. He’s pushing for more updates and even questioned the local council’s plans for safety enhancements.
Good news though! Councillor Catrin Maby, who’s in charge of highways, announced the installation of speed signs. Plus, police community support officers (PCSOs) will be making regular appearances, especially when schools are starting and finishing, to drive home the safety message.
There’s been a bit of back and forth in the council over providing updates on safety plans, but clarity is promised. Police are also continuing their investigation into the incident, with a 30-year-old man arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Stay safe out there, Chepstow! Your roads are in the spotlight, and improvements are on the way. 🛑🛣️ #Chepstow #RoadSafety #CommunityFirst
