Heartbreak at Happy Valley as Caravan Owners Bid Farewell

Caravan owners at the picturesque Happy Valley holiday park in Porthcawl are saying tearful goodbyes as the park prepares to close its doors for good at the end of this season. The news hit hard when, on 5th September, 200 caravan owners received the dreaded notification that the beloved site will be closing on 31st October 2025.

Owners now face the tough choice of trying to sell, scrap, or relocate their cherished caravans, many of which have been lovingly maintained for years. Amanda Jayne, who’s enjoyed over a decade in this community, describes the scene as “torture” with gaps appearing where caravans once stood. The atmosphere is sombre, filled with the sound of hammers and the sight of familiar faces wiping away tears.
Some, like Wendy Boylin, who has been a resident for 34 years, worry about the future despite reassurances that residential areas remain unaffected. Uncertainty looms large and Wendy suspects changes could be on the horizon for everyone.
For many, the financial punch is just as painful. An unnamed owner recently paid over £1,000 to scrap her 38-year-old caravan after dedicating significant resources to its upkeep. Meanwhile, lowball offers and competing scrap businesses add to the distress.
The closures mark another blow, coming just four years after the touring site in the park was shut down. It’s a period of deep sadness and anxiety for so many who considered Happy Valley a home away from home. The community spirit and fond memories will linger, but the physical reminder of spent summers will soon be a thing of the past.
As owners pack up their belongings and dismantle their second homes, one thing is clear – it’s not just caravans that are being left behind, but a treasured way of life.
