An iconic part of Barry’s history, the Christ Church Presbyterian, is getting a fresh start! Originally dating back to the 1890s, this historic site faced potential demolition just a few years ago. Thanks to passionate local residents and councillors, it’s set to become a trendy new hotspot with shops and a restaurant.

Here’s what’s changing: the ground floor will soon house shops, while the upper floor will transform into a bustling restaurant. This comes after the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s planning committee gave the green light on October 9th.
For Buttrills ward councillor, Ian Johnson, it’s a relief and a chance to preserve some of Barry’s rich architectural history. “It’s crucial that this development benefits the community without causing disruption,” he shared, noting planning conditions around opening hours and delivery times aimed at keeping things neighbour-friendly.

Echoing the sentiment, Cllr Nic Hodges expressed enthusiasm for the revamp, saying he’d love to see more eateries breathe life into the town centre. Meanwhile, Cllr Mark Wilson hopes this sparks a wave of regeneration for similar buildings nearby.

In a town where historic churches have often faced bleak futures, this development marks a hopeful chapter. It’s not just about preserving a building—it’s about reviving a piece of the town’s cultural tapestry. Let’s see how this exciting transformation unfolds!
