🌟 Councillor David Thomas Ousted Due to Absences! 🚪

In a twist on the Cwmbran political scene, Councillor David Thomas from the Reform UK party found himself out of a community council seat because of a 6-month meeting no-show streak! As per the rules, that means his seat is now officially up for grabs. Will there be another by-election? We’ll have to wait and see!

📉 Thomas, known for his role as the Reform UK Wales leader on the Torfaen Borough Council, blames his busy schedule for his absence. He juggles duties as a father, local business owner, and borough councillor, which, according to him, keeps him on his toes 24/7! His dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed, though—recently being acknowledged by the Wales Gurkha Community for his efforts. 🏆
🗣️ On his departure, Thomas had this to say: “My time is increasingly stretched. I dedicate my efforts to addressing local issues and supporting our community. I’m not stepping down from my role as borough councillor, and I’m not running in the next Senedd elections. There’s still so much to do!”
The borough council confirms his removal was straightforward due to statutory regulations, but Thomas remains committed to his borough councillor role, focusing on making a difference for the people of Llantarnam.
⚖️ The ball is now in the court of Two Locks ward residents. If 10 electors request a by-election by January 14th, the stage will be set for another community showdown. If not, the local council might simply select someone to fill in.
Stay tuned as we watch how this local political drama unfolds! Could this vacancy lead to an exciting election, or a quiet co-option? Only time will tell! 🕒
