πΎπ Planning a farm visit this half-term? While it’s a wonderful way for kids to connect with nature and animals, it’s important to be aware of some health tips to keep the family safe from E. coli π·.

The UK Health Security Agency urges everyone to take precautions while enjoying farm activities. Dr. Rachael Hornigold offers these key safety tips:

π§Ό Always wash hands thoroughly with warm water and soap after touching animals and before eating or drinking.
π Feeling unwell after your visit? Don’t hesitate to contact NHS 111, especially if symptoms like diarrhoea or stomach cramps appear. These can start up to two weeks after exposure and last just as long.
π« A few “no-nos” while at the farm:
– Don’t touch your face or put fingers in your mouth after petting animals.
– Keep those kisses away from our furry friends.
– Avoid snacks while roaming – even sweets or gum.
– Skip anything that’s fallen on the ground.
– Hand gels and wipes arenβt substitutes for washing hands with soap and water.
– Say no to raw milk products if pregnant, elderly, or have a weakened immune system.
By following these guidelines, you can enjoy a day filled with fun and learning without any health hiccups! ππ»
Have a fantastic farm adventure! πΏπ§Ί
