📚🏛️ After over 700 years, one of the UK’s oldest independent schools, Ruthin School, is sadly closing its doors at the end of the academic year. Founded in 1284 and once relocated in 1893 to the edge of town by architect John Douglas, this historic Welsh institution has seen generations pass through its halls.

Despite efforts to reach the school’s office, the phone line has gone silent since the announcement. Just weeks after St Gerard’s School in Bangor closed, Ruthin becomes the latest casualty of financial pressures exacerbated by recent policy changes like VAT on school fees, loss of charitable status, and higher National Insurance contributions.
As these changes bite, other prestigious schools like Llandovery College, a famed rugby institution for 178 years, are also feeling the strain. They’ve appealed for £1 million in emergency funding to stave off closure.

The community is rallying around affected families – local schools have expressed their support and sympathy. These closures mark a poignant moment in Welsh education history as schools strive to navigate challenging financial waters.
Thoughts go out to the students, staff, and families grappling with yet another significant shift in their educational journey. 🌟💔
