TV presenter Danika Mason has apologised after an eyebrow-raising moment during her live segment from the Winter Olympics in Italy. The seasoned sports broadcaster, well-known for her rugby league coverage, appeared on Australia’s Today Show and became the centre of viewer concern after slurring her words and struggling with coherent sentences.

Amid snowy Italian landscapes, co-host Karl Stefanovic jokingly compared Mason to a “frozen iguana,” to which she amusingly diverted the conversation to coffee prices, leaving viewers puzzled and concerned. At the time, Stefanovic attributed Mason’s speech difficulties to the biting cold, stating, “There’s such a cold wind, you can’t actually move your lips.”

However, Mason later admitted that she’d been drinking prior to the broadcast. In a heartfelt on-air apology, she said, “I totally misjudged the situation. I shouldn’t have had a drink… in these conditions.” She candidly took full responsibility, acknowledging the lapse from her usual high standards and expressing gratitude for the support she received.
The incident has sparked discussions at Channel Nine, with some feeling it highlights a double standard within the network, especially when compared to past situations involving staff. Despite the chatter, the network has decided to leave the incident in the past, following Mason’s sincere apology.
