Exciting changes are coming to Bridgend County! 🎉 The local council has greenlit plans for two towering 90m anemometer masts in the picturesque Llynfi Valley near Maesteg. These masts will collect vital wind data, helping inform future environmental projects.

Set to be installed on agricultural land, one mast will sit below Moel Cynhordy and the other near Mynydd Pwll yr Lwrch. They’ll be around for a temporary stint of up to three years before the sites are fully restored. It’s a quick setup too, with installation taking just a day or two!

While the masts have been approved to aid wind farm development planning, they haven’t been without controversy. Some locals voiced concerns about their visual impact and potential disruption to local wildlife. There’s also a historical site to consider, as one of the locations was the scene of a World War Two plane crash. To address this, contractors will be extra cautious during excavation, ready to report any significant findings.
The council believes this development won’t harm visual appeal or biodiversity, and they’re off to a unanimous start with the applications. Here’s to embracing renewable energy and keeping an eye on the environment! 🌬️💡
