Exciting times for Cardiff! Plans for what will be Wales’ tallest building have just been greenlit. Standing at a staggering 178m with 50 storeys, this future skyscraper is set to make waves not just in Wales but across the UK, ranking as the second tallest building outside London. Currently, Swansea’s Tower at Meridian Quay holds the title, but not for long!

Situated in the buzzing Central Square, this ambitious project is just a stone’s throw away from Cardiff Central Station, the Principality Stadium, and the BBC Cymru HQ. Talk about a prime spot!

The original plans were for a 35-storey tower, but the new development aims even higher. While some had concerns about its impact on Cardiff Castle’s views, the development has mostly received positive vibes. One councillor even called it an “exclamation mark on the city.”
Architects are taking inspiration from the surrounding iconic civic buildings, featuring light tonal façade elements, reminiscent of Cardiff’s skyline. And with thoughtful touches like subtle Celtic symbol references, the skyscraper is set to align beautifully with Cardiff’s rich heritage.
Inside, the building plans to dazzle with lounges, dining areas, co-working spaces, a cinema, gym, and even a spa within its first three floors—how’s that for luxury living?
Kudos to the architects for focusing on its long-term appearance too. Thanks to smart design considerations for Wales’ famous rainy weather, this building aims to look stunning for many years.
