However, they weren’t the only ones making their voices heard. From the late morning, counter-demonstrators, including the Resist Britain First coalition and Stand Up To Racism Manchester, rallied across the city centre. Notable political figure Jeremy Corbyn made an appearance, speaking passionately at the Piccadilly Gardens rally organised by the anti-racism group.

With emotions running high, the march got off to a late start, delayed by an hour due to clashes with police. Scenes captured throughout the day showed heated altercations echoing across the streets, resulting in a number of arrests and police intervention.

In efforts to maintain order, Greater Manchester Police enforced a 10-hour dispersal order, equipping officers with additional powers to prevent any anti-social behaviour or unrest.

Local council leader Bev Craig voiced the community’s sentiments ahead of the event, stating decisively that “hate has no place in our city” and urged locals to unite against such divisive ideologies.

The day was a stark reminder of the societal tensions still simmering beneath the surface, with Manchester standing firm against divisiveness and in favour of unity.
