**Shocking and Disturbing Assault in Swansea Leaves Community on Edge**

A man unleashed a brutal attack on his partner in Swansea, leaving the community shocked. Trevor Hegarty was sentenced to 25 months in prison for a vicious assault where he punched and bit his partner, dragged her back into a tent, and even attacked a security guard.

In the early hours of April 20th, Hegarty turned violent towards his partner during a dispute, calling her horrific names and inflicting serious harm. When the victim tried to escape, he forcibly dragged her back, refusing to let her leave until she managed to flee to safety.
The aftermath saw two security guards bravely intervening. In a tense standoff, Hegarty threatened to stab them and, during his capture, spat in the face of one guard, raising fears of infectious disease transmission. The guard’s subsequent distress led him to take repeated showers and he refrained from even kissing his daughter goodnight, worried about potential health risks.
The court learned that Hegarty has a history of offences, including burglary, theft, and racially-aggravated public disorder. He was already out on licence for previous crimes when he committed this attack.
Defending him, his barrister mentioned Hegarty’s struggles with substance misuse and his willingness to seek help, highlighting a tumultuous life that includes having four children but limited contact with them.
Judge Christopher Vosper KC remarked on the high risk Hegarty poses, stating that the risk cannot be managed in the community and rehabilitation outside prison is currently unattainable.
This case has put a spotlight on the urgent need for addressing chronic substance misuse and violence. Let’s hope for justice and support systems that can help prevent such incidents in the future.
Stay safe, Swansea. We will keep you posted as more unfolds.
