Wayne Lewis, head of commercial operations, has set the ball rolling by submitting planning applications for machines at four key sites. These include the base of Llyn-y-Fan road in Llanddeusant, the car park at Carreg Cennen Castle, Trapp, Llandeilo, and car parks off the B4246 near Blaenavon. The plan is simple: funds raised will go straight back into caring for these cherished sites.

While support is strong, some local voices worry about potential road congestion as visitors might try to dodge new charges. However, Monmouthshire’s highways authority sees little change, noting that verge parking is already an option.

All four proposals are open for consultation until Friday, May 8th. This move follows a challenging budget year where the park needs £5.227 million but only receives £4.528 million in grants and levies. With nearly £700,000 already being drawn from reserves, the parking plan could be vital to keeping the park’s services running without depleting resources.
